Craft Show, Raffle, and Bagpipes!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

On the 17th of August we are going to have our Fifth Annual Craft Show, kick off our big end of Summer Raffle Basked fundraiser, and for the first time ever we’ll have live Bagpipe music.

Bagpipe music reminds me of a story about three British spies that were caught by the Nazis during World War II. One was an Irishman, another was a Scotsman, and the last was an Englishman. The Nazis asked if they had any last wishes before they were executed.

The Irishman says “I want the Irish national anthem to be played before I die”

The Scottish man says “I want the Scottish anthem to be played on bagpipes before I die”

The Englishman, with great fervor, says “I wanna die first”.

Believe it or not, I actually really enjoy bagpipe music and Karen Humphrey will be outside performing at 11:30. Hopefully Karen will remember that you should never run with bagpipes. After all, you could put your aye out or worse yet, get kilt.

We will also be grilling delicious foods on our grills including my nearly famous hamburgers. There was a situation that took place last time we had a cook out that managed to surprise even me. A couple placed an order for a bag of chips, a hamburger and a fountain drink. The husband carefully cut the hamburger in half, placing one half in front of his wife. He then carefully counted out the chips, dividing them into two piles and neatly placed one pile in front of his wife. He took a sip of the drink, his wife took a sip and then set the cup down between them.

As he began to eat his few bites of hamburger, the people around them were looking over and whispering. Obviously, they were thinking, “That poor old couple…all they can afford is one meal for the two of them.”

As the man began to eat his chips, a young man came to the table and politely offered to buy another meal for the old couple.

The old man said, they were just fine, they were used to sharing everything.

People closer to the table noticed the little old lady hadn’t eaten a bite. She sat there watching her husband eat and occasionally taking turns sipping the drink.

Again, the young man came over and begged them to let him buy another meal for them.

This time the old woman said, “No, thank you, we are used to sharing everything.”

Finally, as the old man finished and was wiping his face neatly with the napkin, the young man again came over to the little old lady who had yet to eat a single bite of food and asked, “What is it you are waiting for?”

She answered, “THE TEETH!”

I should talk about some of the other things we have coming up in the not too distant future:

  • Every Wednesday in August, 5PM – 7PM, Rings of Power – Season 1 ~ An epic drama set thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, following the rise and fall of kingdoms and the re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth. We will watch the entire first season prior to the release of season 2 on August 29th.

Now for the part everyone always asks about, the actual food! Our soup is our very popular white chicken chili and our sandwich is a Reuben! Our specialty ice creams are Orange Blossom and Midnight Caramel River.

Thanks and God bless,
Sean
